Each of the lessons has been designed to use approximately 4 hours of instructional time.  The time is, of course, subject to change as per class participation and understanding and must also be considerate of such things as breaks.

Below is a sample of what one can expect in a lesson, complete with time expectations for each section.

§         Introduction of a phase curve, referring back to the student lesson manual.

§         Summary of key features of the phase curve.

§        

Establishing the originating data found on a phase curve for each particular deicing chemical.  Referring to chart in Student Lesson Manual.

 

 

§         Introducing how to calculate a performance index and understand it’s relationship to melting capacity.

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

 

§         Practice exercises to learn the steps to calculating the performance index.  Referring to student lesson manual.

§         Students complete an exercise to practice their new skills in calculating performance index.

§         Group discussion to brainstorm the possible consequences of poor quality control over deicing chemicals.

§         Introducing the components of address shipping issues with respect to receiving contract orders.

§         Lecture style lesson on sampling and testing of your purchased product.

Overview of understanding weight check using volume.  Referring to Student Lesson Manual again.

§         Students will complete an exercise to apply their new knowledge of weight checks using sample bills of lading.
