Each of the lessons has been designed to use approximately 4 hours of instructional time. The time is, of course, subject to change as per class participation and understanding and must also be considerate of such things as breaks.
Below is a sample of what one can expect in a lesson, complete with time expectations for each section.
The following are excerpts from:
![]()

§ Defining the terms; effective temperature and eutectic temperature.
§

Refer students to their manual
for a comparison of the five major anti-icing chemicals.

§ Discussion of the common features of deicing chemicals.
§ Review properties of chemicals in solution.
§ Discussion of terms such as melting capacity, concentration, solution solubility and specific gravity.

Students complete an exercise to practice their
new skills in calculating performance index.
§
Students in small groups will complete an
exercise to help them learn to compare the performance of deicing chemicals.
§
Re-visit solution stability and specific
gravity in a lecture style using a similar chart to above.
§ Group discussion to brainstorm the possible consequences of poor quality control over deicing chemicals.
